PM Sheikh Hasina resigns and leaves Bangladesh, likely to land in India: Reports

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday resigned and left the country, several news reports said amid massive protests against her government that claimed more than 106 lives in the last two days.
However, there was no official confirmation about her quitting and leaving Dhaka.
BBC reported that Hasina left on a helicopter for Agartala in Tripura. While some reports suggest that she will land in West Bengal. The Associated Press said she has resigned but gave no other details. However, the Ministry of External Affairs or local officials in Agartala refused to confirm the report. Tripura Home Secretary P.K. Chakravarty told PTI “we have no such information.
Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman announced here on Monday that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and an interim government is taking over.
In a dramatic development amid massive protests against her government that claimed more than 100 lives in the last two days.
“I’m taking all responsibility (of the country). Please cooperate,” he said in a televised address amid reports that Hasina has left the country. There were unconfirmed reports that she was headed to a city in India.
The Army chief said he had met political leaders and told them the Army would take over responsibility for law and order. However, there were no leaders from Hasina’s Awami League party at the meeting.
