Poem penned by Sahyadri student part of syllabus for Class 8 students

A poem penned by a student of Sahyadri Engineering College of Mangaluru has been included in the academic syllabus of Class 8 students.

B Divit U Rai penned the poem, titled Mother Earth when he was a Class 10 student at Puttur’s Sri Ramakrishna High School. Apart from this, he also compiled poems named Dew Drops while studying at Haradi Government School.

It was while studying at this school that Divit protested the transfer of five woman teachers. His protest got the attention of then home minister Dr G Parameshwara.

Later on Divit’s request, Dr G Parameshwar participated in the annual day celebration of the Haradi Government school and also sanctioned Rs 10 lac for the school room.

Notably, Dr Parameshwar said that he would bear the education expenses of Divit and had also paid for him to participate in Scout Guide Jamboori which was held in Japan.
