Bengaluru: Police officials have arrested the prime accused in the assault and attempted murder case of D. Shashi Kumar, general secretary, Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools.

The accused has been identified as Ravi and is said to be a habitual offender and extortionist.

“Ravi is a chief of a self-styled Karnataka Vidyarthi Poshakara Jagruta Vedike and had allegedly tried to murder Shashi Kumar and also he rented a house near the Shashi Kumar’ residence for the assailants,” police officials said.

He was arrested along with four other associates who had absconded fearing police arrest. The police have recovered two country-made pistols, three empty magazines, and weapons from them.

D Shashi Kumar, general secretary of the Associated Managements of Private Schools in Karnataka (KAMS), was assaulted by a gang of three as he drove back home to Muthyalanagar around 9 pm on July 29. Shashikumar escaped with minor injuries and the incident was caught on CCTV.
