Police arrest absconding MLA Raju Kage and others in Pune for assaulting youth

Belgavi: Kagwad MLA and BJP leader Raju Kage along with other five were arrested in connection with an assault on youth earlier this year. A congress youth leader was severely beaten on January 1 at his residence in Belgavi by a group of relatives of BJP MLA for allegedly posting obscene comment on Raju Kage’s daughter on social media. However, the victim has rejected the allegations made against him on obscene comments, the sources said.
Once the assault was came into light, the MLA and other members of his family absconded and tried to get anticipatory bail in the case. Meanwhile, the police arrested the accused in Pune and will be brought to Belgavi for further questioning. The victim Vivek Shetty and his mother severely injured in the attack and had admitted to hospital in Sangli for treatment.
The youth was attacked by the accused at his residence located in Ugara Khurda of Athani taluk. Following the incident the victim had lodged a complaint against 12 accused including Raju Kage at Kagwad police station.
