Puttur: A local court here granted bail to DySP Dr. Veeraiah Hiremath, who is facing allegations of brutality against arrested youths in the banner installation case. He surrendered before the court before being granted bail.

The then SI Shrinath Reddy and Constable Harshith of Puttur Rural Police Station have been suspended from service in connection with the case. DySP Dr. Veeraiah Hiremath was sent on compulsory leave.

Shortly after the announcement of Karnataka election results,  ”aggrieved Hindu workers” of the constituency had put up the banner bearing the portraits of Sadananda Gowda and BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel offering them ”respectful homage”. The youths were arrested by the police and taken to the DySP office where they were allegedly assaulted.

A case was registered in the Puttur City police station on the complaint filed by Venunath Narimogaru, the father of one of the aggrieved youths named Avinash.
