Police catch cricket bookie

Mangaluru: ICC Cricket World Cup fever is gripping the nation and in this backdrop, cricket betting has also started in the city despite the Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil’s stern warning against betting. Yet standing up to the promise, Mangaluru police arrested a cricket bookie on Friday May 31st. The arrested is identified as Vishwas (40), a resident of Konaje.
According to police sources, the accused was running a gambling den and was also involved in cricket betting through a mobile app. Apparently he was on the run since many days and despite repeated tip-offs , he remained untraceable to the police.
However on Friday, the accused was nabbed by a police team based on credible information. The team also seized a mobile phone and Rs 5,500 in cash from his possession.
