A dispute over a notice for a Rs 10,000 penalty for non-payment of waste disposal user fees led to a scuffle at Badiyadka. Badiyadka police have registered two cases in this regard.
The traders at Badiyadka had reportedly questioned the move of the panchayat collecting user fees even though the waste disposal was not carried out.
In this regard, Abdul Rahman (65) and his son Usman (24), traders from Nirchal, approached the Panchayat office on Wednesday to discuss the issue with Secretary C. Rajendran. They claimed that the traders had paid user fees till October. However, despite the payments, waste was not being cleared by the workers.
As an argument ensued over the issue, Abdul and Usman, in their complaint filed against the secretary and two others alleged that they were assaulted. The duo were admitted to the hospital for treatment.
A counter-complaint has also been filed. Based on the complaint filed by Rajendran, the police filed a case against Abdul Rahman and Usman.
Meanwhile, the Panchayat employees staged a protest alleging obstruction to the performance of their duties.
