Mangaluru: The Mangaluru police have initiated a probe to ascertain the genuineness of a leaked audio clip of a mobile phone conversation, allegedly between a CCB personnel and a criminal where the former is heard providing information to the latter in lieu for money.
The conversation is said to have taken place between CCB personnel Chandrashekar and Rafiq, who was arrested on the charge of carrying arms in his car in the month of August. Notably, the conversation was found on Rafiq’s mobile, which currently happens to be in the custody of police, and thus the department has undertaken a probe if the audio has been leaked for ulterior motives and if anyone from within the police department was involved in the leak.
City police commissioner T R Suresh said that an enquiry if Chandrashekar had acted as a decoy and held the conversation with the accused or if he provided the information for any gain had been taken up.
Further, he mentioned that Chandrashekar in his 18-year of service has discharged his duties efficiently and with his language skills and wide network of contacts has helped the department crack several cases. So far there has been no complaint against him, he added.
