Mangaluru: Following several complaints regarding foul smell emanating from fish transporting vehicles, at the recent police phone-in programme, the department has come out with certain guidelines to combat the issue.
Taking a cue from the National Green Tribunal (southern zone) guidelines given to neighbouring state Kerala, the Mangaluru police came out with below-mentioned rules which need to be strictly adhered by the fish transporters.
- Fish transporting vehicles should be adequately insulated and made leak proof.
- Fish would have to be loaded into crates and not directly into the vehicle transporting them to prevent seepage of melted ice.
- Lastly, wastewater collection tanks should be fitted to the vehicles to check problem of water spillage.
The department on May 6 handed out these guidelines to the transporters and explained the same to them at a meeting called for the purpose.
