Police nab three women for theft

Uppinangady: Three migrant women have been arrested by Uppinangady police on charges of theft and seized gold ornaments and mobile phones worth a total of Rs 4.39 lakh on Wednesday November 14th.
The arrested are identified as Devamma (19) wife of pavan Raj, Nagamma (18) daughter of Sidanna and Geetha (24) wife of Prakash aka Imran, all residents of Bannikoppa in Gadag district.
According to sources, based on a tip-off that three women were loitering near Uppinangadi Sahasralingeshwara temple, a police team headed by Uppinangady police inspector Nanda Kumar rushed to the spot. On seeing the police, the trio attempted to escape, which led to a police chase and eventually their detention for interrogation. The police also seized gold ornaments weighing around 156.140 grams and two mobile phones in their possession.
The interrogation of the accused revealed that hey were migrants from Gadag and worked as daily wagers at the rice plantations. However, when the failed to get any work, they resorted to pick pocketing and burglary. It has also come to light that two of the accused have children and used to beg at railway stations, bus stands and other public places.
The accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
