Police officers can trace traffic violators anywhere in state

Bengaluru: A new unified system is likely to be implemented across the state where the entire data of traffic violations across the state will be linked to a central server. The entire traffic police station of Karnataka will be able to access violations of a vehicle anywhere in the state.

Presently, the violations of traffic are recorded only in the district office server which is accessible only to that particular station and not the entire state. According to the statistics, there are 114 traffic police stations in all the districts across the state. Traffic police in a particular district at present have no clue about a motorist’s violations elsewhere in the state.

M A Saleem, commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety (Additional Charge) assured that a centre for the unified server will be constructed in Traffic Management Centre in Bengaluru with different management for its maintenance and staffs to run the server. The details related to the violation will be accessible to every police officer across the state at any point of time. This will definitely bring down the traffic violation and increase fine collection, he added.

The traffic police also plan to introduce Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices in all districts. The PDA system helps book violations and enables fine payment through cards.

The Bengaluru traffic police use 625 PDAs and will get 150 more by April this year. 300 PDAs will be given to traffic police in every district. The PDAs will have an in-built printers, cameras and enforcement applications to register traffic violations. The police officers will be given training on the usage of the PDAs. The gadgets also take pictures and record videos. The GPS will help record the place and time of the traffic violation.
