Police opens fire to arrest rowdy sheeter

Mangaluru: Mangaluru Police on Tuesday morning opened fire at a rowdy sheeter when he allegedly assaulted Police Inspector to evade arrest.

The rowdy sheeter identified as Bhavith Raj is accused of assaulting the driver of a goods vehicle at Kankanady here.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner said that they were forced to open fire in self-defense as Bhavith assaulted the inspector when he went to arrest him.

A team of police personnel of Kankanady police had waylaid the accused’s car near Adyar here. When the inspector went to arrest Bhavith he and two other persons launched a murderous assault on the police personnel. while police managed to arrest Bhavith the other two managed to flee the spot, he informed.

The commissioner also added that Bhavith was a rowdy sheeter and had eight cases registered against him.
