Police raid crusher unit at Erlapady; two arrested

Karkala: A police raid was conducted at Sri Mahaganapati stone quarry at Erlapady in the backdrop of illegal storage of explosives here on March 20th. The raid was conducted under the leadership of Karkala Sub-Division ASI Krishnakanth and a huge cachet of explosives was seized.

During the raid 106 gelatin sticks, 12 explosive detonators, 8 lorries, 2 compressors, 2 Hitachi, 5 gas cylinders and 6 motorcycles were seized. Two persons were also arrested and have been identified as Nawaz and Baiju.

A case in this connection has been registered against the crusher owner Ramakrishna Shetty, Baiju and Hafiz from Kerala, Nawaz, Suresh, Prakash and Junaid from Keremule in Uppinangady.

There were complaints that high intensity explosion were being used daily to break open black stones and that it was causing much noise pollution, dust pollution as well as shook the ground.
