Mathura (UP): Members of a mining gang attacked a police team and tried to snatch the gun of a trainee sub-inspector after they were caught mining sand illegally on the Yamuna riverbed here. The police team was attacked at Barauth Khadar under Naujheel police station, Superintendent of Police (Rural) Aditya Kumar Shukla said.
“The attempt of the gang members to snatch the pistol of trainee sub-inspector Sumit Kumar was foiled due to timely arrival of additional police force,” Shukla said. The police officer said efforts were on to nab the gang members.
He said the department would also inquire how only a trainee sub-inspector and two policemen were sent to arrest the illegal miners, without informing senior officials. Shukla said action would be taken against erring police personnel if they had not followed instructions.
