Popcorn and movies are the best combinations, but what happens to your body when you have popcorn?

Apparently, the effects of popcorn fully depend on how you make it.

The popcorn sold in the theatre drowned in butter and salt, won’t do you any health favors. The microwaved popcorn at home may be filled with preservatives and unknown ingredients, although the healthiest popcorn option is air-popped.

As popcorn is a type of corn kernel, it automatically becomes a whole food. Whole grains like popcorn have high fiber, linked to lower the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

One container of movie popcorn contains 2,650 milligrams of sodium, which according to FDA is the amount of sodium one should consume in a day. With this amount of Sodium, you are putting yourself at serious risk of hypertension and stroke.

Popcorn is a great source of antioxidants like many fruits and vegetables. It has polyphenols that are directly linked to improving blood circulation.

Air-popped popcorn is naturally low in calories and still manages to keep you full, hence it is one of the underrated weight-loss snacks.
