Kundapura: Former chairman of Karnataka Vidhan Parishad and Congress leader K. Prathapchandra Shetty resigned from his KPCC post on January 16. He sent a letter to this effect to the KPCC and a copy of it to the AICC.

Following his resignation from the post, there were rumors that Prathapchandra Shetty wishes to retire from active politics. Others speculated that he resigned due to his displeasure over distributing KPCC membership to party blocs.

Some reports on online media claimed that several Congress leaders, who came to know about the matter, tried to persuade Shetty to retract his resignation. It is learned that former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also spoke over the phone late on Tuesday night.

When ‘Udayavani’ contacted Prathapachandra Shetty about the development, he clarified that he had resigned only to the post at the KPCC and not from the Congress party. explaining his reasoning, Shetty said he felt more suitable and interested leaders should occupy the post. He made clear that his resignation was to help the party organization and not otherwise.

AICC Secretary and Kerala MLA Roji M. John, and KPCC working president R. Dhruvanarayana visited Prathapachandra Shetty’s residence and held a discussion on making the “Prajadhwani” conference a success in the district.
