Praveen Nettaru murder case: Accused in NIA custody

Bengaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday took custody of the five accused in the murder of BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Nettaru, which took place in the Bellare police station of Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada district last month.

The NIA offcials took Naufal (28), Sainul Abid (22), Mohammad Syed (32), Abdul Bashir (29) and Riaz (27) into custody for six days (till August 23).

Praveen Nettaru was brutally hacked to death on July 27. Bellare police had arrested and booked the accused in case under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The case was later transferred to the NIA.

The five accused are currently lodged in Mangaluru jail, where they were handed over to NIA custody and interrogated, sources said.
