Pregnant constable on bandobast duty: Notice issued to Mulki police inspector

Mangaluru: Mangaluru North Division ACP Srinivas Gowda has issued a charge memo to Mulki Police station in-charge inspector and sub-inspector for deputing a woman constable, who is in the ninth month of her pregnancy on bandobast duty during the visit of Deputy Chief Minister C N Ashwath Narayan.
A photo of the on-duty pregnant policewoman wielding a lathi and discharging duty near Mulki bus stop had gone viral on social media.
Expressing pain over the incident, Dr Harsha sought an explanation from Mulky Circle Inspector (CI) on why the constable, who should have been on maternity leave was performing bandobast duty. He also directed the Srinivas Gowda to submit a report on the incident.
The ACP, who has started an inquiry, has served notices to Inspector Ravi and Sub Inspector Sheethal Alagooru seeking an explanation.
Dr Harsha said that he had issued orders to all station house officers to ensure that pregnant women police are treated with care.
