Bengaluru: A 26-year-old pregnant woman who had taped a knife and other sharp objects to her ankle was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday, April 8
The passenger identified as Uma Devi was from Assam and was scheduled to board a flight from Bengaluru to Guwahati. She was accompanied by her family members.
During security checks, the CISF officer found sharp metal objects such as a knife, a paper cutter, a single blade, a razor, a nail clipper, a metal filer, and tongs taped to her ankle. When questioned, Devi said that carrying metal objects is a community custom
She claimed that it was a custom in her community for pregnant women to tie metal parts around the stomach, but as she was not comfortable, she preferred to tie them around her ankle.
Soon after, her luggage was offloaded and her family members who had already boarded the flight were told to disembark. Uma Devi has been handed over to the KIA police officials for further inquiry.
