The groundwork for the upcoming Kambala Games, a celebration of coastal rural traditions, is in full swing as Bengaluru gears up to host the event.

Organizers received the results of drinking water and soil testing for the track corners on Saturday. Once the official permission from Maharani of Mysore is granted, preparations will commence without delay.

In recent weeks, an essential water examination took place, evaluating whether the water from the Jaya Chamarajendra Lake on the palace grounds of Bangalore would be suitable for consumption by the buffalos (participants). The results are now at hand, confirming that the water poses no issues for the buffalos. This development marks a significant stride in resolving the urgent need for water access for the participants.

The logistics of transporting buffalos from Udupi-Mangaluru to Bengaluru via train remain uncertain. While the preference of the buffalo owners is to utilize a lorry for transportation, discussions are ongoing regarding the possibility of arranging a one-day stay in Hassan. However, considering the challenges posed by coordinating such arrangements, the alternative of utilizing goods trains for transporting the buffalos is being considered.

Verbal assent has already been granted by the Maharani of Mysore for the Kambala event. Upon formal receipt of written permission, negotiations will promptly be held with the buffalo owners. Additionally, the palace grounds’ halls have been reserved for the event. Ashok Kumar Rai, MLA of Puttur, stated that robust corners from Bengaluru will be encouraged to engage in this sports extravaganza.

Under the present plans, the event is to be titled “Raja Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Jodukere Kambala.” Anticipating a crowd of around 200,000 spectators, the Kambala Games are expected to take place in early November, with the exact date yet to be finalized.
