Prestigious Florence Nightingale Award conferred upon nurse Nimmi

Mangaluru: Nearly a month after the infamous incident at Deralakatte in which a 22-year-old girl was repeatedly stabbed by her acquaintance, a young nurse who displayed exemplary courage in reaching out to the victim was conferred with the state level Florence Nightingale Award.
Nimmi Stephen, a staff nurse of K S Hegde Medical College Hospital, Deralakatte was presented with the award at a ceremony in Bengaluru during the weekend.
It may be recalled that on June 28, a youth named Sushanth repeatedly stabbed the victim, Deeksha, 21, an MBA student of a college in Nitte near Karkala allegedly for rejecting his proposal. While several onlookers were clicking photos Nimmi who arrived at the scene in an ambulance rushed to the victims help without caring for her safety. She even managed to convince Sushanth to step away from Deeksha. Her quick thinking and bravery won her accolades and she was also she also received an award from the Hospital where she is employed.
An elated Nimmi, speaking to media persons said that she never expected to receive such a prestigious award so early in her career and expressed happiness that Deeksha is now recovering.
