Udupi: A resolution will be moved in the city corporation session for renaming the circle near the old taluk office after Veer Savarkar Circle, Udupi MLA K Raghupati Bhat said on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons, Bhat opined that it is not appropriate to install a statue of Savarkar right now, but instead, the circle can be named after Savarkar. There are plans to rename the traffic circles around the city after several great personalities including Dr B R Ambedkar and Savarkar, he said.
’CFI started the hijab row’
Raghupati Bhat said that it was the CFI that had started the hijab controversy. For over 20 years, the students at the Government Womens’ College adhered to the uniform policy. This year too many girl students from the Muslim community have taken admissions at the college, he said and added that CFI is directly responsible if any girl student is deprived of education due to the hijab row.
