Do not sacrifice animals on Bakrid: Min Prabhu Chauhan

Bengaluru: In the wake of Bakrid, state Minister for Animal Husbandry Prabhu Chauhan has called for ‘protection’ rather than ‘sacrifice’ of animals.
In the press statement, the minister appealed to the Muslim brethren to refrain from sacrificing animals, particularly cows, during the “Feast of the Sacrifice”.
Reportedly, Chauhan has requested to refrain from sacrificing cows during the feast, as the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act was in place, which was passed on both the floors of the Karnataka Assembly in 2020 and enacted in early 2021.
He has directed the officials of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Karnataka Police to have strict vigil across the state borders as well as districts. Chauhan has directed the officials to register an FIR and take stringent action as per the Act towards the culprit transporting cattle or its meat.
Meanwhile, as per the orders and direction of the ministry, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahangara Palike (BBMP) has formed a task force to curb the killing of any animal in the name of ‘sacrifice’.
