Belagavi: Some farmers from Maharashtra, who were resentful about not getting a reasonable price for their product, tried to drain around 25,000 liters of milk from three milk tankers from the Belagavi KMF plant.
A group of farmers were waiting near Chandagarh on the Karnataka-Maharashtra border on Monday night. They stopped the tankers and tried to empty them.
The Maharashtra police then escorted the tankers to the their goals, with whatever milk was remaining. Belagavi SP Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that officers were deployed at borders, and vehicles were given protection.
Maharashtra police have assured escorts to the milk tankers, Mr. Reddy said.
