Mangaluru: Many student organizations have demanded that the reopening of Pre-University colleges be postponed in the backdrop of severe water shortage being faced in DK district. However, the Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has said that there is no plan to postpone the date and that any educational institution facing acute water shortage will be provided water through water tankers.

“PU colleges gave already started classes from Monday May 20th as per schedule. If any institution needs water, it may approach the district administration and measures will be taken using water tankers.”

Thumbay dam

Speaking on the water level at Thumbay vented dam the DC said, “The water level at Thumbay dam is at 3.42m and is quite enough to be supplied to the people until June 10th. Although some parts of the district have received good rainfall in the last two days, it has not helped the inflow of Netravati River. As per the Meteorological Department’s forecast, the monsoon is expected to arrive on June 6th and we hope the district may not face any water problems,” said Mr Senthil.

Dredging will be undertaken within the next four days to increased the storing capacity of Thumbay vented dam, informed the DC.
