Public beware! Whatsapp scamster poses as Mangaluru Police Commissioner, asks for money

Mangaluru: A fraudulent attempt to extort money by misusing the profile picture of Mangaluru Police Commissioner, Anupam Agarwal, through a deceptive WhatsApp message and call has come to light.
A perpetrator, falsely posing as the Commissioner of Police employed the Commissioner’s photo as their WhatsApp profile picture. The fraudster sent several messages to various contacts associated with the Commissioner, including fellow police officers, urging them to transfer funds with a promise of swift reimbursement. Furthermore, the imposter made several calls.
A preliminary investigation further uncovered the call to be a scam.
Mangaluru Police Commissioner Agarwal warned the public not to fall for the scam calls and messages. “It is a fake call. Please do not respond to it,” the commissioner added.
