Public Health Laboratory at Wenlock

Mangaluru: A new health laboratory has been inaugurated at the district Wenlock Hospital in the city and the samples of the patients at all the government hospitals can henceforth be tested here itself for free of cost.
The new laboratory constructed at the cost of almost Rs 50 lakh by the District Survey Division was inaugurated by district in-charge minister U T Khader on Tuesday. The technical equipments will reach the laboratory in a few days, following which the dependency on private laboratories will be considerably reduced.
The Lab
In accordance to the rules of the Central Surveillance Division in New Delhi and the State Surveillance Division in Bengaluru, the lab will do tests for various epidemic diseases including Dengue, Chikungunya, yellow fever, typhoid, typhus, malaria and plague. The lab also has the facility for specialist doctors to deposit samples from patients infected with Rubella, Measles, H1N1, Ebola, Nipha, Zika which can be sent to better laboratories at Manipal, Bengaluru and New Delhi and avail their reports. The new laboratory is being equipped to carry tests including Water Bacteriological test and JSB stain test for Malaria for the government health centres in the district.
