Mangaluru: There will be disruption of water supply to parts of Ullal and Bantwal as the water pumps have submerged with the after level in the Nethravati River rising to 9 meters on Thursday August 16th.
The maximum storage level of the new dam at Thumbe in Bantwal taluk is of 11 meters. Initially the water level was maintained at 5 meters and later the height of the shutters was increased to 6 meters in January this year. However, due to the increase in the inflow in the river and though the dam shutters remain open, the water level is now standing at 9 meters.
“Mescom authorities have now disconnected the power supply. Water supply has been suspended temporarily. Water supply can be restored only after alternative measures are taken,” informed M Shashidhar Hegde, chief whip of the ruling party at Mangaluru City Corporation.
