Raichur: The Pushkar Punya Snana (Holy Pushkara bath) will be starting from November 20 at the Tungabhadra river.

Before the commencement of the holy baths, a procession of the idol of Prahladaraja, accompanied by musicians, was conducted from the Srimatha to the bank of the river.

Various poojas and rituals were carried out under the leadership of Sri Subhudendra Tirtha, the chief seer of Srimatha before the commencement of the event.

After the pooja, Sri Subhudendra Tirtha took a dip in the river along with the devotees.

In his message, the chief seer said that it is mentioned in the Puranas that Teertharaj Pushkar was in the river for 12 days which is why bathing in the holy river is considered to bestow a special blessing on devotees. Adding that devotees should perform the holy bath while adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines.

The construction of a well-equipped bathing ghat at a cost of Rs 13 crore will be starting soon. This is being done in collaboration with Infosys’ Sudha Murthy. The work was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the seer said.
