Puttur: An Anganwadi worker, posted on election duty, was allegedly assaulted by a woman on April 16.

The victim, Jayashree associated with Rotarypura Anganwadi, had been deputed on door-to-door distribution of voter slips.

When Jayashree was visiting a voter’s house, a woman named Fathima suddenly appeared and assaulted her, the complaint says.

Jayashree has been admitted to Puttur Government Hospital for treatment.

The Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association condemned the incident. Kamala and office bearers of AIFAWH  visited Jayashree and inquired about her well-being.

Following the incident, AIFAWH claimed that BLOs are scared to visit voter’s homes on election duty as they have no protection. Also, several BLOs are falling sick due to scorching summer temperatures. Therefore, “we have requested the Assistant Returning Officer and Tehsildar to make arrangements for distributing the voter’s slips at one designated place,” they added.
