Puttur: Attempted molestation – Accused sentenced to 2 years behind bars

Puttur: An accused was pronounced guilty of trying to molest a woman at a shop in Kedambadi village.
Puttur Additional Senior Chief Commercial Judge Devraj Y.H bench sentenced the accused, Bardruddin alias Badru, to 2 years imprisonment and a fine.
On September 14, 2022, a woman with her 7-year-old daughter came to a sweet shop in New Super Bazaar General Store. It was argued that the accused tried to molest the woman when she was paying the bill for some snacks.
Following a complaint by the woman, the Puttur Rural Police had registered a case against the accused under Section 354 IPC. The then SI Ramakrishna of Sampya Police Station investigated the case and filed a charge sheet against the accused in the court.
After perusing the evidence and arguments, the court delivered its verdict and imposed 2 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused. The court also prescribed an additional jail term of 6 months in case the convict fails to pay the fine. The court also ordered compensation of Rs 5,000 for the victim. Assistant public prosecutor Chetanadevi Boloor argued for the prosecution.
