Puttur: A woman from Puttur was duped by a conman who took her gold ornaments after offering to shine them up.

The victim has been identified as Indira from Pernaje, a member of Nettanige Mudnoor gram panchayat.

In her complaint, the victim stated that a man came to her house and said he could help shine up gold and silver ornaments.

When Indira gave him a silver anklet, he used a yellow powder and made it glossy as new. She then gave her gold ornaments to him who used yellow powder to polish them and then put them in a vessel full of water and boiled the ornaments.

He then washed them with water, put saffron powder, packed the ornaments in a paper and gave it to her. He asked her to remove the ornaments after half an hour and left.

However, Indira grew suspicious and opened the packet in five minutes and found bits and pieces of gold in them. It turns out that the man turned a small amount of gold into a liquid form and had fled with the remaining ornaments.

A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
