Puttur: Elderly woman commits suicide by drinking petrol

An elderly woman who drank petrol on September 26 as she was depressed about living on others’ support, died at Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru on September 29.
The victim Padmavathi (78), was a resident of Biliyoor village, Bantwal. She was living with her son-in-law Umanath Shetty for the past four years.
It is said that she had lost her mental balance and was depressed about her ill health and also that she had to be dependent on others.
On September 26, around 4 pm Padmavathi drank the petrol that was kept in the house for use in the grass cutting machine and fainted.
She was immediately admitted to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru. However, she died on September 29.
A case has been registered at Uppinangady police station.
