Puttur: Fake govt document racket busted; one arrested

Puttur: A raid on a shop in Puttur city on Tuesday uncovered fake documents racket using the unauthorized use of seals of Gram Panchayat and Municipal Council.

The discovery was made during a raid conducted under the leadership of Taluk Panchayat EO Naveen in the wake of complaints from the public about fake documents being created at a shop named BB Electric and Plumbing situated at MS Complex near Padil on Puttur-Uppinangady road.

The proprietor of the shop, Vishwanath B.V., a resident of Peruvattodi of Kabaka village, has been taken into custody by police.

Hundreds of fake documents including  copies of official documents such as no objection certificates (NOC), tax payment receipts, etc. of villages in Puttur, Kadaba, Sullia, and Bantwal taluks were found during the raid. More than 50 seals of government-related offices were also found at the shop.

It is learnt that the accused is a registered electrical contractor and used fake documents to secure electricity connections to unauthorized buildings. He used to charge a hefty amount for it.

Meanwhile, investigations are underway to detect the illegally gotten electricity connections.
