Puttur: A fire broke out at the shops near Hanumagiri Kshetra in Ishwaramangala in the early hours of Saturday.

It is gathered that the blaze was started by an electric short circuit at Sri Panchamukhi Anjaneya Fruit Shop and the adjacent fancy store run by Dhananjaya Gowda from Paduvannur Village.

The fire was noticed at around 2 am, and the locals immediately tried to douse the flames. The fire services were also called in.

But by the time the fire has extinguished both shops were completely gutted. It is estimated that items worth around Rs 8 lakhs were destroyed in the blaze.
