Puttur: Two individuals in a car registered in Chhattisgarh were apprehended by locals in the Bettampady area of Puttur after they were found going door-to-door promoting a “Scratch and Win” sales scheme.
The incident, which raised suspicions among residents, culminated in the individuals being handed over to the police after being questioned at the Bettampady Gram Panchayat office.
The duo, reportedly representing “Balaji Marketing Sales,” claimed to offer household appliances like TVs and refrigerators at discounted prices. They used scratch coupons to entice people, promising prizes based on the coupon results. Skeptical of their intentions, the locals alerted the Panchayat and later informed the police.
During initial investigations, it was revealed that their marketing office is listed in Kolhapur’s Gandhinagar area, with claims of branches in Mangaluru and 10 other locations. However, the individuals did not possess any permission from the district administration or relevant authorities to conduct door-to-door sales.
The police have registered a case at the Puttur Rural Police Station and are conducting further inquiries into the matter.
