Raichur: Authorities demolished an unauthorized Shiva and Ganesh temple built on a CA (Civic Amenity) site in the Santosh Nagar locality of Raichur on Tuesday night under tight security.
The site had been allocated for constructing a government high school building, approved on June 1, 2022. However, some individuals had occupied the space by setting up a shed and installing idols, attempting to claim the land. Several organizations and students have staged protests demanding the removal of the unauthorized structure, but no action has been taken until now.
On Tuesday night, a team led by Assistant Commissioner Gajanana Bale, along with hundreds of police personnel, carried out the operation. The unauthorized temple and shed were dismantled, ensuring the site could be used for its intended purpose. The land has been earmarked for the construction of a high school building under the name of LBS Nagar Government High School, with funding already sanctioned for the construction of four classrooms.
The demolition operation faced resistance from locals, but authorities ensured the temple’s removal under heavy police protection. Municipal Commissioner Siddayya Hiremath, Additional SPs Shivakumar and Harish, three DYSPs, over 10 police inspectors, and hundreds of police personnel were took part in the operation.
