Mangaluru: City police commissioner Dr Harsha on Wednesday said that the police will not deter in conducting raids at hostels and campus of educational institutions if they do not cooperate in the crackdown against drugs.

Addressing a press conference following the arrest of four drug peddlers from Thokottu, Dr Harsha said that the police has formed teams to tackle the drug menace and is conducting raids based on credible information. The police are now training guns on those supplying the drugs.

He informed that the police have made repeated appeals to educational institutions to cooperate with them and undertake inspections at their hostel and campus premises

He informed that repeated appeals made to educational institutions to cooperate with the police and undertake inspections at their hostel and campus premises have not been heeded and thus they will be forced to seek a search warrant from the court and conduct raids themselves.

“As raids on educational institutions will fetch them a bad reputation, the police have so far not done so. However, if educational institutions fail to take up the responsibilty of cleaning their premises, the police will have to take action,” he warned.

Meanwhile he urged youth to stay away from consumption and/or peddling of drugs.

“We will follow zero tolerance towards drugs. Ignorance of law is no excuse. We will not spare anyone.” he concluded.
