Mangaluru: An alert train driver averted a major train tragedy as the train was stopped in time after noticing a rail fracture on Monday.
Major cracks had developed in rail tracks near Yedamangala and remained unnoticed and came to light only after the Bengaluru-Karwar Express train moved over them, early Monday morning.
The loco pilot felt something amiss when the first bogey crossed over the cracks and immediately stopped the train.
It was later noticed that the rails were completely severed, due to stress. The driver’s timely action, thus, saved many lives.
The railway officials were informed about the incident, who made arrangements for the repair.
The train proceeded towards its destination after the repairs were completed.
