Bengaluru: The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in six districts of Karnataka, including Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, and Yadgir, on Friday (September 27). The yellow alert has been issued as a precautionary measure in these regions.

According to the Met Department, the coastal regions of Karnataka are also expected to witness strong winds with speeds reaching up to 55 km/h. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during this period. Meanwhile, in Bengaluru and surrounding areas, the weather is expected to remain cloudy with a chance of light rain over the next 24 hours.

Weather Forecast:

According to synoptic meteorology, a cyclonic circulation currently lies over north-central Maharashtra and its neighboring regions, extending up to 5.8 km above sea level and tilting southwards. This circulation, along with a trough stretching from Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal to northern Bangladesh, is expected to influence the rainfall patterns in Karnataka.

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) has also warned of widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy showers over coastal districts of the state. Scattered rainfall is expected in North Interior Karnataka (NIK) and Malnad districts, while South Interior Karnataka (SIK) may witness isolated light to moderate rainfall.

Over the next few days, heavy rains are expected in parts of the Western Himalayas, Central, Eastern, and Northeastern India. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall is likely in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on September 27 and 28, with further warnings of heavy rain on October 2.

With the cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km, Karnataka’s coastal and some interior regions may witness moderate rainfall on Friday, the Meteorological Department added.
