Rain dust phenomenon in Bettampady

Puttur: Amidst the continuous rain in the district since a week, the residents of here witnessed a new phenomenon when rain dust lashed Bettampady in the taluk on the night on July 29th.
People witnessing this rare phenomenon reportedly grew afraid of the sudden rain of dust and the the sudden prominent smell of dust in the air. The rains the lasted close to 2 hours from 8pm to 10pm inform the locals.
Rain dust is also known as muddy rain or coloured rain. It is phenomenon of rain that contains enough dust for it to be visible without using a microscope and is highly alkaline in composition. This phenomenon is a common sight in the western and southern Mediterranean.
