Rain fury continues in Malenadu region; Two killed after tree falls on house

Chikkamagaluru: A huge tree uprooted by the heavy winds and rains came crashing down on a house in K Talaguru under Balur police station in Mudigere on Tuesday night. Two occupants of the house were crushed to death in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Chandramma and Sarita.

Chandramma, Sarita, and Sarita’s sons — Sunil and Deekshith- were asleep in the house. At around 10 pm the tree next to the house was uprooted and fell on the house. Sarita was killed on the spot, while Chandramma died on the way to the hospital, sources said.

Meanwhile, the heavy downpour is continuing to cause misery to the residents of Malenadu area.

The BEO has issued an order declaring a holiday for schools in Kalasa Taluk on Wednesday. Classes until 10th standard will not be held on Wednesday, the BEO’s office said and added that decision to extend the holiday will be taken after reviewing the situation.
