Mangaluru/Udupi: In comparison to the rain intensity on Tuesday, the amount of rain received along Karavali on Wednesday was relatively lesser. Nonetheless, heavy rains beat down upon the foothills of the Western Ghats, the hinterlands as well as the Malnad regions. With the collapse of a wall onto the road, uprooted trees and boulders lying across the Charmadi Ghat road as well as the trees fallen on Shiradi Ghat road, traffic movement along the routes was hindered for some time. Landslide which occurred near Talatmane along Mani-Mysuru road is the major incident reported due to the rainfall on Wednesday.
Although the rain intensity has dropped slightly the rivers are flowing to their brim. Low lying areas have been inundated. More than 80 houses suffered damage in Udupi district.
Holiday on Thursday as well
Considering the forecast by the weather department of a possibility of more heavy rains, the holiday given to the schools and colleges in Udupi and DK districts has been extended to Thursday. Kodagu district has also announced holiday for Aug 8th and 9th.
