Rainfall and thunderstorms in parts of DK and Udupi

Parts of coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi received rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on Saturday, providing relief from the prevailing dry spell.

While it drizzled in some parts of Mangalore city at around 9 am, other areas remained parched. However, regions such as Belthangadi, Kanyadi, Savanalu, and Subrahmanya were drenched in substantial rainfall.

In Udupi, towns of Hebri, Bajagoli, and Mala were hit by thunderstorms, with Hebri encountering heavy rain from 6:30 pm onwards.

Kundapur also experienced strong winds and lightning alongside significant rainfall, while Udupi and Manipal saw intermittent drizzles amidst cloudy skies.

The downpour extended to the countryside and foothills of the Western Ghats, benefiting areas like Siddapura and Shankaranarayana.

However, the heavy rainfall caused issues in Belthangadi, where the highway became muddy, and certain roads suffered damage.

Looking ahead, the Indian Meteorological Department forecasts further rainfall in the coastal regions. IMD predicts moderate rainfall on April 14 and has not issued any alerts.
