Rains lash Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh: Rains Tuesday lashed most parts of Punjab and Haryana with Pathankot being the wettest place as it received 94 mm of rainfall.

Among places which received rainfall were Chandigarh (10.6 mm), Ambala (7.7 mm), Hisar (30 mm), Karnal (16.8), Narnaul (12 mm), Rohtak (3.2 mm), Bhiwani (1.4 mm) and Sirsa (5 mm), an official of the Meteorological department said here.

In Punjab, rain was recorded in Amritsar (13.1 mm), Ludhiana (53.6 mm), Patiala (14.8 mm), Adampur (57 mm), Halwara (44 mm), Bathinda (4 mm), Faridkot (2.2 mm) and Gurdaspur (67.1 mm).

Though minimum temperatures went up by several degrees above normal, cold weather conditions continued to prevail in most parts of both states.

Gurdaspur in the region was the coldest place with 5.3 degrees Celsius, official said. 

Union Territory Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, experienced cold weather conditions at 11.9 degrees Celsius, six degrees above normal.

Among other places in Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala braved cold weather conditions 9.3, 9.2 and 12 degrees Celsius respectively, up to seven degrees above normal.

Pathankot, Adampur, Halwara, Bathinda and Faridkot recorded their respective lows at 9.2, 10.6, 10.1, 9.4 and 9.5 degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, Ambala, Hisar and Karnal recorded their respective minimums at 12, 11.3 and 11.4 degrees Celsius, up to six degrees above normal.

Bhiwani, Sirsa, Rohtak and Narnaul recorded their respective lows at 12.4, 10.3, 13.2 and 10 degrees Celsius respectively, up to six degrees above normal.
