Rains, thunderstorms claim three lives in state

Chikkamagaluru/Udupi/Mysuru: Rains accompanied with thunderstorms claimed three lives in the state on Saturday. A ten-year-old boy, Subramanya died due to lightning at NR Pura taluk in Chikkamagaluru while his mother and sister suffered injuries in the incident reported at around 11.30 pm.

Sanna Mareppa (65) and Rajamma (25) also lost their lives in two separate incidents at Hospete in Bellary after heavy rains lashed the district. The roofs of several houses and buildings also suffered damage; mango and banana plantations were destroyed in Hoskote.

Meanwhile, damage worth Rs 6 lakh was incurred after a coconut tree fell on a house in Kaup in Udupi.

Heavy rains were also reported in Mysuru, Hunsur and some areas of Southern Karnataka in the past 48 hours.
