Ramakrishna Mission: 33rd Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan

Mangaluru: Kadri Park and its surroundings were cleaned under the 33rd Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan under the leadership of Ramakrishna Mission on Sunday, May 27th.

The Abhiyan was started off by Yenapoya University registrar Dr. Shrikumar Menon and Dr. Subhramanya Shetty, in the presence of Sri Ramakrishna Mata Swamy Jitaka Manandaji.

Dr. Shrikumar Shrtty spoke and said that the Swachh Bharat Mission has now become a people’s movement and Ramakrishna Missions actions is appreciable. By organizing such Abhiyan’s and many other such programmes, students can be sensitized about the mission and thus give a boost to the pace of achieving a Swachh Bharat.

Discipline and following rules is important

Dr. Subhramanya Shetty spoke on this occasion and said that to see a new Bharat, every Indian must inculcate the method of cleanliness, discipline and following of rule that is there in foreign countries. We follow rules when we visit abroad and if we continue to follow the same rules in India, then only will the country become clean.

Many activists took part on this occasion including Ramesh Rao, Masa Hiro, Nagesh K. Purashottam Poojary, Vibha Prabhu, Anirudh Nayak and others. Initially, the workers were divided into five groups and given individual responsibilities.

Later, the cleaning  both, the exteriors and interiors of Kadri Park was carried along with cleaning the toy train track, walking track and the radio pavilion. The road going from Kadri Park to Padua was cleaned by Mehboob Khan and team.

Dr. Dhinesh and team cleaned the walk path in front of the park. By making use of a JCB, heavy stones and seats lying on the walk path were removed and uneven ground was made even. Shubhodaya alva provided direction.

Removal of Banners

The workers formed two groups who worked on removal of banners in the city which spoil the beauty of the city and cause a nuisance to motorists. Importantly, the banners were removed from locations includi8ng Kankanady, Bijay, Agnes, Jyoti, Bendoorwell, Pumpwell, Nanthoor, Balmatta and many other places.

Cleaning of bus stands

The activists of Swachh Mangaluru had previously renovated the bus stand in front of Kadri Police station. The same bus stand was washed and cleaned. Also its surroundings were cleaned. Ganesh Prasad Shetty, Krishnaprasad Shetty, Chetana Gadiyar are the workers who took part in this work.

Awareness on Cleanliness

Students of MAPS College and corporator Suresh Shetty took part in the cleanliness drive. They mingled with the public in the park, distributed hand bills and spread the word on the importance of cleanliness. They contacted the local vendors and requested them to not to throw garbage around.
