Rape: 10 years rigorous imprisonment

Mangaluru:  A youth has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 70,000 for cheating and raping a lady after promising to get married to her. The convict is Ajit Shetty (23), a resident of Padubalike in Kemral Attur village. The sentenced was announced by 6th additional district and sessions court Judge Syedunnisa on Thursday.

Sentence

10 years of RI and a fine of Rs 50,000 under IPC sec 376 (N) (repeated rape) and failure to pay the fine will attract an additional imprisonment for 1 year. A fine of Rs 20,000 and 1 year imprisonment under IPC sec 417 (cheating) and failure to pay the fine will attract an additional incarceration of a month. Rs 50,000 of the fine should be provided to victim and child should be provided a compensation of Rs 1 lakh, read the sentence.

Public prosecutor Judith O M Crasta argued on behalf of the prosecution.
