Mangaluru: A special investigating team (SIT) probing the criminal cases against gangster Ravi Poojary is said to have interrogated former underworld don turned social activist Muthappa Rai.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sandeep Patil who is heading the SIT team said that owing to Rai’s health condition he was subjected to questioning at his residence itself by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Venugopal and police inspector Bulletin. The investigation is said to have lasted for over two hours.
It is gathered that the questioning was related to his connection with Poojary and the 2001 murder of builder Subbaraju in Vyalikaval in which Rai too was an accused.
Ravi Poojary and Muthappa Rai were like a team during the initial days, stated a police official.
Poojary who has around 97 cases – murder, attempt to murder, extortion, threats etc. registered against him in Karnataka was extradited from Senegal and brought to Bengaluru in February this year.
