Kundapur: Yuva Brigade founder Chakravarty Sulibele on Sunday, February 21 questioned the opposition of state people towards Shivaji Maharaj on grounds that he is a Marathi while on other hand foreigners expressing solidarity with protesting farmers’ have got immense support.
Speaking at an event, organised in memory of Shivaji Maharaj here Sulibele said that it is unfair to limit the warrior king, who championed for the cause of Hindutva to one particular caste or language.
Referring to India’s history, Sulibele said that Chathrapathi Shivaji had conducted the first ever ‘surgical strike’ against foreigners to free Basrur from the clutches of Portuguese in the 16th century. He had pledged to build a Hindu Swaraj on the soil of Karnataka and this must be a matter of pride for us, he added.
Hitting out at double standards of people for opposing Shivaji because he is a Maratha and not a Kannadiga, Sulibele questioned, “It is really mean that Shivaji is opposed just because he is Marathi. You support foreigners who gave call to farmers’ protest. Are they Kannadigas?”
Sri Vishwaprasannatheertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math and Halaveerappa Swamiji of Hadagali Hala Samsthana too participated in the event. A mammoth bike rally was organized on the occasion.
